OUR SERVICES

FLS represents migrant and seasonal farmworkers throughout the state of Michigan. FLS assists them with legal problems in the following subject areas:

Employment
- Employment Contracts, Minimum Wage, Failure to Pay Wages, Unpaid Bonuses, Crewleader Problems, Wage Deduction Problems, Pesticide Exposure, Field Sanitation (Adequate toilet facilities and drinking water in the fields)

Benefits
- Food Stamps, Medicaid and Other Health Programs, Unemployment Compensation, Day Care, Social Security, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), Emergency Assistance

Housing
- Evictions, Threatened Evictions, Lock-outs, Housing Conditions, Health and Safety issues, Land Contract Advice, Labor Camp Housing

Education
- Access to Education, Disciplinary Actions, Discrimination Based on Migrant or Immigration Status

Immigration
- Eligibility Questions, Family-Based Forms Processing, Naturalization, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act)

COLLABORATIONS

FLS cooperates with Michigan Migrant Legal Assistance Project (MMLAP), which is based in Grand Rapids. FLS and MMLAP coordinate outreach throughout the state of Michigan and refer cases as appropriate.

FLS cooperates with the Diocese of Kalamazoo Immigration Assistance Program to refer immigration cases to the appropriate agency and to ensure that competent legal counsel is available to low-income residents of southwestern Michigan.

DONATIONS

FLS is a division of Legal Services of South Central Michigan. LSSCM is a non-profit [501(c)(3)] organization that provides its services free of charge and supports its work through grants and donations. We encourage you to consider a donation to FLS. You may donate by check to the address below or by credit card by clicking the "Donate Now" button at the top of the page. Your credit card donation will be processed by the Access to Justice Fund of the State Bar of Michigan. However, all funds that you donate will go directly to support FLS.

OUR PROGRAM

Farmworker Legal Services is a division of Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM), a non-profit organization funded primarily by the Legal Services Corporation to provide free civil legal assistance to low-income persons, including migrant and seasonal farmworkers.

LSSCM has branch offices in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Jackson, Lansing, and Monroe. LSSCM also operates the Family Law Project and the Michigan Poverty Law Program, both located in Ann Arbor.
